SH:FtNW bound for US release

New publishing company XSEED Games has announced today they will be bringing Shadow Hearts: From the New World to the US. An official site for the game has been put up, along with links to product pages at EBGames and GameStop. (the links seem to currently be broken, but SH:FtNW does show up in EB’s search, so hopefully this means it’s legit!)

Catching up with the official site updates just in time for the release date:

New characters added to the character pages: Anne and Edna. Voice samples for Natan, Ricardo, and Hildegard are now available be as well.

The third “web special campaign” video is available via the fan club site, and a commercial is available on the media page.

SH:FtNW has scored a 35/40 in Weekly Famitsu’s cross review, earning it a Platinum award from the magazine.

The 7/22 issue of Weekly Famitsu will contain special SH:FtNW postcards. The 7/22 issue of Dengeki PS2 will feature SH:FtNW on the cover, and the bundled DVD will contain a special movie. SH:FtNW also placed on recent magazine lists: 7/22 Famitsu PS2 - #6 on “Top 20 Most Anticipated Games"; 7/22 Dengeki PS2 - #7 on “Top 20 Most Anticipated Titles"; 7/22 Weekly Famitsu - #26 on “Top 30 Most Anticipated New Works".

On 7/14, Japanese cell phone service NTT DoCoMo will start an i-mode called “Aruze Mobile". “Aruze Mobile” is a cell phone portal size that will provide access to all Aruze’s official sites, and will feature a “Shadow Hearts Special Corner". Those who register and save points will receive images for their cell phones and a chance to win original goods.

Aruze has announced special pre-order goods available to those who pre-order at certain shops in Japan. In addition to the “Shadow Hearts Series Creation Materials Collection” book reported earlier, pre-orders at the following shops will receive:
Sofmap: Johnny & Shania original telephone card
Wonder Goo: Yuri & Alice tote bag
VIC21: Special alarm clock
Tsuyata: Special Disc (contains weekly calendars featuring SH monsters, and sound effect data)
wanpaku: Clear pencil board
TV Panic: Premium Disk (contains PC wallpaper, opening movie, sound data, special cover images. You can also buy the clear file at this store)

In the 7/8 issue of “Dengeki Playstation", SH:FtNW ranks #8 on the “Top 20 Most Wanted” poll and SH:C ranks #9 on the “Top 20 Reader’s Favorite” poll. In the 7/8 issue of “Weekly Famitsu", SH:FtNW ranks #24 on the “Top 20 Most Wanted” poll.

The 7/7, 7/14 and 7/21 issues of “Weekly Shinchou” and “Weekly Fumiharu” will feature an article by “Aruze-kun” talking about SH:FtNW.


New Shadow Hearts CDs

According to a few websites, 2 new Shadow Hearts CDs are due out on August 24th: the soundtrack for SH:FtNW, as well as an arrange album titled “near death experience".

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, here’s what’s new at the official website since my last report:

Character page has been updated with the new characters: Frank, Mao, Hildegard, Killer and Lady.

Starting 6/10, a special program will be broadcast on the official website in commemoration of the release of SH:FtNW. Popular actors You Shirota and Aki Hoshino will play the parts of Johnny and Shania respectively as they “navigate the American continent". A second program will follow on the 20th, and a third on July 1st. The 3rd program will only be available to fanclub members. Fanclub members can also take a quiz during the final program to win a LCD TV or an overseas vacation.

Blog site Cafesta has started a SH:FtNW promotion: You Shirota and Aki Hoshino, mentioned in the above news item, now have their own blogs on Cafesta and will post pictures from the production. They also have had special Cafesta-style avatars of Johnny and Shania created for them. Fanclub members can also get special SH-themed skins for their Cafesta blogs.

The Diary section of the official site is now up. There is a “diary” for Lenny, and a developer’s diary. So far there are entries from production manager Hamamoto and planner Ishida.

Lastly, a second trailer has been added to the streaming media section.


Small shop update: SH:FtNW Limited Pack

There’s a couple updates to the Icaro shop: Play-Asia now has pre-orders up for the Limited Deluxe Pack of Shadow Hearts: From the New World. They are also having a large summer sale, which includes Shadow Hearts: Covenant at a lowered price.


New SH:FtNW characters and pre-order item revealed

New playable characters in SH:FtNW were recently revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu and on the official website. Hildegard Valentine, the Peach Bat from SH:C and self-proclaimed magical girl heroine; Mao, a giant cat that uses drunken fist fighting techniques; and Frank Goldfinger, a 46-year-old wannabe ninja.

Also recently revealed on the official website is the “Shadow Hearts Series Creation Materials Collection” book, which will be given out with pre-orders of the game. The book is 44 pages, B5 sized, and will contain art from all 3 SH games. It will also contain special guest art by “Fruits Basket” manga artist Natsuki Takuya.


SH:FtNW JP release date and limited edition goodies

According to Games Are Fun, the Japanese release date for Shadow Hearts: From the New World has been set for July 28. The standard edition of the game will retail at 7329 yen; a limited edition will also be available for 12390 yen. This limited version will include a bonus DVD, a music CD, three Valentine Sibling phone straps, a Johnny t-shirt, a Shania keychain and a notebook.

SH:FtNW First Trailer + preorder

The first trailer for Shadow Hearts: From the New World is featured in the Director’s Cut release of SH2. maskrider has captured the trailer and it is available for download at RPGamer.

The game is already available for pre-order at Play-Asia, and the Icaro Shop has been updated accordingly.


New Shadow Hearts game announced!

The next game in the series has been announced through a Japanese gaming magazine. The title is “Shadow Hearts: From the New World” and is due out in Japan this summer. The game takes place in America during 1929. The main characters are Johnny Garland, a 16-year-old boy from New York, and Shania, a 21-year-old Native American female warrior. Locales in the game include Chicago, Brooklyn, the Grand Canyon and Chelsea.

SH2 Director’s Cut page & other official site updates

The official Shadow Hearts site finally updates with a page on the Director’s Cut. Additional & larger images can be seen at Game Watch as well.

In earlier news, the Shadow Hearts II Complete Guide is getting yet another reprint thanks to the guide’s popularity. The next printing will be available around the beginning of February.

Also, profiles for Lt. Kawashima and “secret” (Halley’s mother) have been added to the official site’s SH1 characters section.


Shadow Hearts II re-release

Shadow Hearts II will be getting a budget re-release in Japan under the title “Shadow Hearts II Director’s Cut Edition". It’s due out on March 10th at the price of 2980 yen (3129 yen w/ tax). No word yet on whether this “director’s cut” will have anything new or different from the original release.

SH1 Soundtrack re-release; official website update

As reported on the official Shadow Hearts site, the Shadow Hearts Original Soundtracks plus 1 CD will be getting a re-release on January 19th, at the lowered price of 2100 yen. The contents are the same as the original release, except this one has a new cover. Pre-orders will be taken at the Shadow Hearts Fan Club. Those who pre-order there will receive a special seal (sticker) .

Also since last mention, the official website has been updated with profiles for Zhuzhen, Keith, Halley and “Roger Bacon". Our local profiles for those characters will be updated shortly with the new info. (Interesting to note that Halley is the only character who doesn’t have an English spelling listed for his name. Could it be due to the Plunkett/Brancket romanization mishap between Koudelka and SH?)

The official Shadow Hearts website has added a new section for SH1 character profiles. Currently only Margarete’s profile is up. Our local profile for Margarete has been updated accordingly.

In the media news section, Shadow Hearts II The Complete Guide will be getting a reprint due to popular demand. The new batch will be in Japanese bookstores around the first of December.

An update on the earlier news regarding GameStop and EBGames bundling copies of Shadow Hearts with preorders of Shadow Hearts: Covenant - Gamepot reports that Midway, the North American publisher for the title, has announced this offer itself. With this official connection, it’s pretty safe to assume now that all game stores taking preorders will have this available. Hoorah!
